Saturday 15th May
Fivemiletown United 5-1 Omagh United
With all three senior teams having completed their respective league campaigns attention on Thursday night turned to the semi final of the Fermanagh and Western Intermediate cup.

Omagh United were the visitors to the Valley Stadium for this penultimate round tie. A large crowd, creating a great atmosphere witnessed the best performance of the season from the home team, to see them comfortably ease into the final courtesy of a 5-1 victory.

A Stevie Erskine hatrick, Chris Mc Dowell and Jason Gillespie from the spot were the Town scorers on the night, steering the Town towards their second final of the season next Friday night at Darragh Park against the illustrious Dergview.

MOTM Stevie Erskine, with the outstanding contributions on the night in an overall fine team performance,  from Gillespie, Mc Dowell and Keith Clarke.

Coba with a brace, Sean Hackett and Fleming Agnew were our goalscorers.

MOTM Sean Hackett, with good returns from Conor Mc Caffrey, Coba and Neil Trotter.

Fivemiletown United Under 14s 0-8 Enniskillen Rangers

The under 14s more the matched the league favourites for the opening period although two goals late in the opening period sent the boys in behind at the break but they never seemed to emerge for the half and switched off for the duration allowing Rangers to ease to a comfortable victory.

MOTM Sonny Mc Donagh.

In closing the club would like to wish club stalwart Jason Elliott a speedy recovery after he sustained a broken ankle against Omagh United on Thursday night.

Saturday 8th May
Seapatrick 2-2  Fivemiletown United
On Saturday the Town completed their league campaign for the season with an away day in Banbridge against Seapatrick. Travelling with a very depleted team, they returned home with a merited share of the spoils after a ropey first half in which Jamie Callaghan, on a least 4 occasions came to the Town’s rescue.

The second was a role reversal. Goals from Stevie Erskine and Marcus Johnston ensured the Town finished the league on a positive note

MOTM Jamie Dunlop,  with good outings from Stevie Erskine, Jamie Callaghan and Ricki Carroll.

1.Jamie Callaghan 2.Jamie Dunlop 3.Addy Williamson 4.Keith Clarke  5.Marcus Johnston 6.Matty Callaghan  7.Chris Mc Dowell 8.Stevie Erskine 9.Ricki Carroll 10.Ben Irwin  11. Niall Murphy  12.Jamie Davidson 13. Scott Hetherington  14.Gary Noble

MOTM Matty Callaghan. With stand out efforts from Dessie Gilmour, Williamson and Clarke.

Fivemiletown United Thirds 2-2 Lisbellaw United Thirds

MOTM Sean Hackett

Ennislkillen Town 4-3 Fivemiletown United U13

For the second week in a row this young team, despite having the lions share of possession returned home empty handed. The progress these lads have made since the opening day has been amazing and are within touching distance of their first points.

Goals came from Gary Trotter 2 and Rhys Mc Quigg.

MOTM Gary Trotter, with good performances Mark Lee, Kenny Weir and James Massey.

Ref Jonathan Thompson has to receive special mention he was superb throughout and as much as any of the players on show, has to be a real talent in the years to come.

With the onset of midweek fixtures the Senior training has now ceased for the season. The BKYL teams continue on Tuesday night at the valley Stadium at 7pm, while the mini soccer also reverts to the valley Stadium on Thursday nights at 6.30pm.

In closing congratulations are extended to Glenn Mc Guckin and his girlfriend Hayley on their surprise engagement. Hayley tells me Mojo got down on one knee outside the Saltshaker and would not get up again until she accepted his diamond sparkler.  I think the strange looks she was getting from passers by encouraged her to say yes.

Saturday 1st May
Fivemiletown United 2-1 Dollingstown
On Saturday the Town hosted their recent Premier cup final conquerors Dollingstown in their penultimate league fixture.

With a point to prove the team took to the field with a determined look and after an evenly balanced opening period it was sloppy marking from a throw which allowed the visitors to go into the break one goal to the better, after a good shot left Past Cadden no chance.

Addy Williamson levelled proceedings on the hour mark, Ben Irwin and Paddy Mc Kernan combining to release him and he duly dispatched the chance.

With 15 left on the clock the points were clinched courtesy of Ricki Carroll who pounced on a mix up in the Dollingstown rearguard

MOTM  Keith  Clarke

1.Pat Cadden  2.Ian Davis 3.Dessie Gilmour 4.Keith Clarke  5.Marcus Johnston 6.Shane Mallon  7.Chris Mc Dowell 8.Paddy Mc Kernan 9.Ricki Carroll 10.Ben Irwin  11.Addy Williamson  12.Jason Elliott  13.Stevie Erskine 14.Gar Noble

Fivemiletown United 1-0 Omagh United
In midweek the Town came out in top in the local derby clinching a hard fought 1-0 victory over Omagh United. Chris Mc Dowells goal proving the difference between the teams.

MOTM Ian Davis

Derrychara United 3-1 Fivemiletown United Seconds

A depleted Second team took to the field for their fixture of the campaign and although playing any football on show slipped to a disappointing defeat.  Scott Hetherington notching our goal.

MOTM Matty Callaghan

Fivemiletown United Thirds 1-2 Dergview Thirds

The Thirds passed up the chance to seal their reserve two status for next season. As with the Seconds the lion’s share of the possession was held by the homesters but Dergviews finishing proved the deciding factor. Geoff Sharpe scoring the only goal out of several chances the team contrived to miss.

The Thirds displayed enough grit in this game to leave hopes high that Tuesday nights fixture at home to Lisbellaw United Thirds will see them gain the point they need for safety.

MOTM Gareth Mc Guckin, with good outings from Mark Johnston, Gareth Mallaghan and Cathal Mc Girr

On the youth front the 16s had a torrid night at home to Ballinamallard Youth coming out on the wrong end of a 13 goal defeat. Keeper Cameron Crawford suffered a nasty injury, opening up a on his stomach which required 5 stitches. MOTM Kyle Thompson

The U13 team returned a stirring performance against a lively Enniskillen Rangers losing out by 2-1.

Two incorrect referring decisions gifted the visitors their goals. With Gay Trotter on hand to score for the Town.

This game was played in a fine spirit throughout. Visiting manager Lynda Dickson and her team have to be congratulated on the way they conducted themselves on Saturday morning. The fixture epitomises what football at this age level is all about.

MOTM Scott Johnston, with James Armstrong, Andrew Lee and Kenny Weir standing out in a good team performance.

Saturday 24th April
Ballymacash Rangers 1-2 Fivemiletown United
On Saturday the Town journeyed to Lisburn to play the already relegated Ballymacash Rangers and in a typical end of season game the Town never really found the extra gear to score the goals that their dominance warranted.

A long Chris Dynes clearance found the hard working Ricki Carroll in the 2oth minute, he controlled and cut the ball back to Jason Gillespie who cracked a superb effort into the net from 20 yards for the opener.

Rangers levelled proceedings on the half hour, a route one ball from defence fell kindly for the Rangers forward who, a la Gillespie 10 minutes earlier, sent a well hit shot past Dynes.

With a minute to the break Carroll once again was the provider for Gillespie, cutting in from the left before sending over a low cross for the predatory Gillespie to tap home.

With no further goals the second period was played out with the Town holding the upper hand and Rangers working hard to close out any further Town danger

 MOTM  Marcus Johnston

1.Chris Dynes  2.Ian Davis 3.Dessie Gilmour 4.Keith Clarke  5.Marcus Johnston 6.Jason Gillespie 7.Chris Mc Dowell 8.Paddy Mc Kernan 9.Ricki Carroll 10.Ben Irwin  11.Addy Williamson  12.Jason Elliott  13.Jamie Davidson  14.Scott Hetherington 15. Pat Cadden

Fivemiletown United Seconds 1-1 Dunbreen Rovers

This turgid encounter was not a game for the purist, both teams were committed but very little quality was on display.

The Seconds were masters of their own destiny throughout but it was Dunbreen who opened the scoring after 18. A corner was cleared only as far as an unmarked Rovers player on the edge of the box, whose shot left Jamie Callaghan no chance.

A change of shape at the break pinned Rovers mostly into their own half for the second period and the possession paid off with 15 left when Paul Benson prodded home the leveller.

MOTM Dougie Breen with good returns from Gareth Mc Guckin, Gary Stewart and Niall Murphy.

Dergview 7-1 Under 16s

A very under strength side once again took to the field, made up mostly of Under 14s for this difficult encounter.

Goal scorer and MOTM was Cameron Crawford.

UNDER 14s 2-2 Dergview

A point was the least the U14s deserved from this encounter. Two second half goals from Fleming Agnew and Ryan Mc Cormick clinched a share of the spoils.

MOTM Matty Ralph with good outings from Dan Ashfield, Brian Mc Keown and Gary Trotter.

Ballinamallard Youth 14-0 Under 13s

This was a baptism of fire for this very young 13s side. It was a first outing in an eleven aside game for over half the team and it showed against a well drilled Mallards team who pressed for the duration. Thanks to Gareth Mc Guckin for preparing the team before KO.

MOTM Andrew Lee. Scott Johnston, Gary Trotter and Graeme Wiltshire worked hard

With the onset of midweek fixtures the Senior training has now ceased for the season. The BKYL teams continue on Tuesday night at the valley Stadium at 7pm, while the mini soccer also reverts to the valley Stadium on Thursday nights at 6.30pm.

The club would like to extend their deepest sympathies to the Stronge family from Clabby on the tragic passing of their mother.

Saturday 10th April

On Saturday the Town journeyed to Armagh to play Blackers Mill in a league fixture. With the disappointment of last week’s Premier Cup final defeat still fresh in the memory, manager Andy Parkinson had the unenviable task of rallying his troops. But he succeeded and spurred the team to a more comfortable victory than the scoreline suggests.

Jason Gillespie opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Addy Williamson cutting in from the left picked out Gillespie who duly converted.

On the half hour Ricki Carroll was upended in the box and after last week’s penalty miss a brave Chris Mc Dowell stepped up to the spot and crashed the ball home.

Gillespie grabbed hi s second and the Towns third jinking his way past three defenders before sending the keeper the wrong way.

Mill pulled one back before Gillespie completed his hatrick and put the points beyond doubt.

Minutes from time Mill nicked a consolation against the run of play.

Final Score  Blackers Mill 2-4 Fivemiletown United.

 MOTM  Jason Gillespie

1.Jamie Callaghan 2.Ian Davis 3.Dessie Gilmour 4.Keith Clarke  5.Ivor Johnston 6.Jason Gillespie 7.Chris Mc Dowell 8.Jason Elliott  9.Ricki Carroll 10.Ben Irwin  11.Addy Williamson  12.Jamie Dunlop  13.Jamie Davidson  14.Scott Hetherington .

Fivemiletown United Seconds 0-4 Omagh Hospitals

This game, as well had a scoreline which did not do justice to the possession, Hospitals, who clinched the division three title with the three points garnered were made to work all the way but a deficiency at set pieces proved to be the Towns undoing compounded with a season long profligacy in front of goal.

MOTM Niall Murphy.

Killen Rangers Youth 8-0 Under 16s

A very understrength side took to field, made up mostly of Under 14s for this difficult encounter against last season’s double winners and although returning a game display could not make any inroads into an impressive Killen team.

This week’s fixtures see the Firsts away to Dollingstown on Saturday. An early chance to overturn the cup final defeat and make ground in our league table position. . The Under 16 host Lisnaskea Rovers Youth on Friday night at the Valley Stadium.  Chris Mc Dowells U14s continue with a home fixture,  against  Dergview on the 19th. While the U13s hope to make their league bow on Saturday morning at home to Orchard Farm.

Training continues at FMT College Astro turf on Tuesday for the BKYL at 7pm teams and Thursday nights at 7.15 for the seniors  at the King George Playing fields. The Mini soccer for primary school children resumes on Thursday  at 6.30. All new faces welcome, also at the High School Astro turf.

Saturday 3rd April

On Saturday the Town made the long journey to the home of Banbridge Town for the much awaited Premier cup final. A large trail of cars snaked their way out of town tailing the official bus in anticipation of another giant killing act.

After heavy overnight rain the pitch was in surprisingly good shape and conducive to good football, which it never really received. But what it did receive and the large crowd in attendance was a whole hearted and committed performance from both teams.   A game in which marginally more of the better chances fell the way of the Town. The game was always tight with neither side willing to give ground.

The first foray, with any real intent, came in the 3rd minute, Jason Gillespie making room for Ricki Carroll in the Dollingstown box, only for the ball not to sit kindly for Carroll and the chance slipped away.

With both sides probing, Dollingstown crossed deep into the Town box in the 10th minute, the ball evading everyone, but a  waiting  Dollingstown player at the back post who nodded home the opener.

After that early setback, most of the serious intent was forged by the Town, Sean Mc Caffrey, twice in quick succession nearly un locked the Dollingstown rearguard. Just failing to get on the end of a in swinging corner in the 21st and then in the 26th he was on hand to receive a cheeky back heel from Stevie Erskine only to hook  his effort over the bar. Dollingstown looked dangerous with deep right hand crosses although Chris Dynes was never really troubled in the Town goal.

12 minutes into the second period and the Town were level.  Mc Caffrey was again instrumental, releasing Carroll to send a square ball into the box and the marauding Gillespie stroked home.

With 30 remaining both sides rang the changes in an attempt to gain the upper hand.  Dollingstown were restricted to mainly long range efforts at this stage.

With 3 minutes of normal time remaining Gillespie and Mc Caffrey combined to create a chance for Carroll which just sat tantalising out of his reach .

Extra time was played in the same vein with neither side really able to trouble two very well drilled rearguards. The only chance of real note seen stalwart Dessie Gilmour clear off the line with Dynes beaten.

Then the dreaded penalty kicks and ultimate heartbreak for the Town faithful.  Dollingstown holding their nerve to net all five with the Town missing one.

This was the proverbial game were neither team deserved to lose, but with all finals there can be only one winner and on this occasion it was not to be the boys from the valley.

Final Score  Dollingstown 1-1 Fivemiletown United.  Dollingstown won 5-4 on penalties

 MOTM  Sean Mc Caffrey

1.Chris Dynes 2.Ian Davis 3.Dessie Gilmour 4.Keith Clarke  5.Ivor Johnston 6.Sean Mc Caffrey 7.Chris Mc Dowell 8.Stevie Erskine  9.Ricki Carroll 10.Jason Gillespie  11.Addy Williamson  12.Paddy Mc Kernan  13.Jason Elliott 14.Mark Baxter 15.Ben Irwin 16. Jamie Callaghan 17. Marcus Johnston

Saturday 27th March

On Saturday the Town hosted struggling Laurelvale at the Valley Stadium and after a bright start somehow contrived to throw away a 2 goal advantage against a Laurelvale team who had been reduced to nine men.

Chris Mc Dowell opened the scoring from the spot after a handball by a Vale defender escaped unpunished.

The Town held the upper hand for the remainder of the half and went further ahead on 60mins. Stevie Erskine was upended just outside and Keith Clarke, with a sweet strike from the resulting free kick doubled the lead.

Manager Parkinson’s hand was forced at this stage, with a cup final looming and Mc Dowell and Erskine sitting on yellow cards, he made the decision to remove them. The ill discipline cost the Town dearly. The changes seem to disrupt the pattern of play.

A sloppy challenge allowed Vale to hit home a well taken free before another poor tackle this time inside the box allowed Vale to level from the spot.

With minutes remaining a rampant Vale clinched all 3 points, another set piece proving the Towns undoing.

Final Score Fivemiletown United 2-3 Laurelvale

 MOTM  Sean Mc Caffrey

1.Pat Cadden 2.Ian Davis 3.Addy Williamson 4.Marcus Johnston 5.Ivor Johnston 6.Sean Mc Caffrey 7.Chris Mc Dowell 8.Stevie Erskine  9.Ricki Carroll 10.Ben Irwin 11.Paddy Mc Kernan  12.Keith Clarke 13.Jason Elliott 14.Mark Baxter

Fivemiletown United Seconds 7-0 Augher Stars

This was a good return from the Seconds with Augher on the receiving end for large portions of the game. A Paul Benson hatrick, Ashley Mc Farland with a brace, Adam Black and Ryan Finch were on target.

MOTM Paul Benson, with good outings from Black, Mc Farland and Matty Callaghan.

Enniskillen Town Colts 6-0 Fivemiletown United Colts

The Colts slipped to their 5th defeat on the trot. The loss of Andy Kyle to a red card in the opening minutes always left this a difficult task.

With two games remaining its imperative the boys pick up maximum points if they are to preserve their division two status.

MOTM Garry Campbell

The U16s lost out 2-0 away to Lisbellaw in a friendly on Saturday. It was a first chance for Geoff Sharpe to see his new charges in action.

The U16 open their BKYL campaign on Friday night at home to NFC Kesh at the Valley Stadium with a 7pm KO.

Training continues at FMT College Astro turf on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7.15 for the seniors while the BKYL teams continue their training at the same venue on Tuesday night at 6.50.

The POTM awards for March went to, Firsts Chris Mc Dowell, Seconds Glenn Mc Guckin and for the Thirds Cameron Crawford.

Congratulations to Ian Davis on passing the 250 First team appearance mark in the month of March.
Finally the club would like to extend condolences to Chris Dynes on the passing of his Aunt.
Saturday 20th March

On Saturday the Town hosted high flying Tandragee Rovers at a sun soaked Valley Stadium. With several changes to the starting eleven due to a mounting injury list the Town looked ragged in the opening exchanges. So much so that Rovers opened the scoring in the first minute, a rapier like throw causing confusion in the Town rearguard, allowing a forward to side foot the ball home.

Rovers continued to hold the upper hand and doubled their lead on the half hour. A cross from the left was headed on, evading the defence and cannoned off the knee of a waiting visitor and into the net.

With this concession the Town changed formation and with it their fortunes. Just before the break Chris Mc Dowell whipped in a low ball, Jason Elliott flicked on and Paddy Mc Kernan supplied the final touch before a diving Jason Gillespie heading past a stretching Rovers keeper.

The second half continued with the Town on top. Addy Williamson shining at left back proving inventive and a real thorn to Rovers on that side.

70 mins A free from Mc Dowell  picked out Gillespie who made no mistake to level the scores.

But set piece defending proved to be the Towns undoing. A corner won almost from the restart was not dealt with and a waiting Rover with a poorly hit shot, scored what proved to be the point taker.

The Town endeavoured to respond and showed good spirit and determination but could not unlock a stubborn Tandragee rearguard again.

Final Score Fivemiletown United 2-3 Tandragee Rovers

 MOTM  Addy Williamson

With resources stretched ,Williamson shone at left back showing invention in his deliveries and eagerness to overlap at every opportunity.

1.Chris Dynes 2.Ben Irwin 3.Addy Williamson 4.Marcus Johnston 5.Ivor Johnston 6.Jason Gillespie 7.Chris Mc Dowell 8.JasonElliott  9.Ricki Carroll 10.Stevie Erskine 11.Paddy Mc Kernan  12.Ian Davis 13.Cathal Mc Girr 14.Sean Mc Caffrey
Fivemiletown United Seconds 3-2 Lisnarick

This was a game off the proverbial two halves.  A Seconds outfit seeking their third straight league win displayed a lethargy in the opening period allowing a deserving Lisnarick to take a two goal lead into the break. With a slight tactical change and a heavy dose of the “hairdryer treatment” A rejuvenated Seconds returned for the remaining 45. The deficit was halved one minute after the restart. A marauding Matty Callaghan was upended in the box and Geoff Sharpe converted from the spot. 57 Dominic Mc Kernan was on hand to level before Paul Benson came off the bench to clinch a stunning winner.

MOTM Clint Palmer, with good outings from Mc Kernan, Geoff Sharpe and Matty Callaghan.

Lisnaskea Rovers Reserves 1-0 Fivemiletown United Colts

The Colts slipped to their 4th defeat on the trot, but again battled hard but could not find an answer to Skeas opener.

MOTM Mark Johnston

The U13 A@B teams hosted Enniskillen Town at the King Georges on Saturday morning.  Honours were even in the A encounter a 3-3. With Fmt clinching a leveller right at the death.

In the B game a Rhys Mc Quigg hatrick and further goals from Jason Mc Coy, Mark Beatty, Nathan Sherry and Scott Johnston clinched a 7-2 victory.

Thanks are extended to Glen Lindsay from Enniskillen Town for not seeing this as an opportunity to include older players “for a runout” before the league campaign starts in earnest. Both games were played in a fine spirit throughout.

Saturday 13th March

On Saturday the Town travelled for the fourth week in a row, this time to Struggling Laurelvale and after only 9 minutes debutant Ricky Carroll opened the scoring, Jason Gillespie with a back flick played in Carroll who slipped the ball under the body of the advancing keeper.

The home team levelled just before the break with a clean strike just inside the Town 18.

Two minutes after the break Vale took the lead. Chris Dynes making an uncharacteristic mistake, dropping the ball and allowing a grateful forward to stroke home.

Goals either side of the break usually upset the side on the receiving end but the Town showed resilience and fought back to level and within minutes were level. A Gillespie shot was saved by the keeper but Carroll was on hand again to convert.

With half an hour to go Carroll completed his hatrick and what proved to be the winner. A long clearance from Dynes picked out Carroll who deftly lobbed the advancing custodian.

Dynes redeemed his earlier error when harshly adjudged to have committed a foul, he saved the resulting penalty, preserving the three points.

Man Of The Match  Ricki Carroll

With a couple of late pullouts and one or two more playing through the pain barrier, this was a decent three points to preserve their top half status.

The acquisition of Carroll looks to have been just what the doctor ordered. A goalscorer,  for the most part, was what the team was lacking. If Carroll can sustain this type of form then he could prove to be a very worthwhile addition to the squad.  Addy Williamson and Marcus Johnston were solid at the back. With Gillespie combining well with Carroll up front.

1.Chris Dynes 2.Ian Davis 3.Addy Williamson 4.Marcus Johnston 5.Ivor Johnston 6.Keith Clarke 7.Chris Mc Dowell 8.Jason Gillespie  9.Ricki Carroll 10.Neil Morrison  11.Paddy Mc Kernan  12.Ben Irwin 13.Jason Elliott 14.Sean Mc Caffrey

Fivemiletown United Seconds 1-0 Orchard Farm

This was a tight fought encounter at the Valley Stadium although the Seconds always looked in control of their own destiny. Glenn Mc Guckin , against his old team, slid home, what proved to be the winner just after the break.

MOTM Geoff Sharpe with good outings from Glenn Mc Guckin revelling in a central midfield role, Gareth Mc Guckin and Clint Palmer.

Enniskillen Rangers Reserves 2-1 Fivemiletown United Colts

This  one was a lot closer from their earlier encounter with Rangers. Gary Mc Cleans charges returned home feeling that they should have won this one.

Packie Mc Caffrey was on hand to score our goal

MOTM Cameron Crawford

Congratulations to Gareth Mc Guckin, who recently picked up the “Coach of the Year” award at the Fermanagh Sports Advisory dinner.  A well earned accolade

Saturday 6th March

On Saturday the Town travelled for the third week in a row, this time to title challengers Tandragee Rovers. With probably their strongest team out for a few weeks now, they felt aggrieved to return home without a share of the spoils.

The Town held the upper hand over the first 45 and opened the scoring after ten minutes, a well weighted corner found the head of Ivor Johnston who steered the ball goalwards with the keeper beaten an unlucky  defender  turned the ball into his own net.

Tandragee levelled on 41, breaking well after another spell of Town pressure and a quick flowing move gave the homesters an unlikely equaliser.

In the second half Rovers found their feet and started to turn the tide, but it was the Town who were left frustrated. Keith Clarke crossing into the box, picked out Paddy Mc Kernan whose shot was well saved but Sean Mc Caffrey was on hand to stab home only for the ref to rule what looked a good goal out for offside.

With a draw looking a fair result, in the fourth minute of injury time Tandragee grabbed all three points when a flick on in the box came off Johnston to wrong foot Chris Dynes.

Final Score Tandragee Rovers 2-1 Fivemiletown United

MOTM  Ivor Johnston

1.Chris Dynes 2.Ian Davis 3.Dessie Gilmour 4.Marcus Johnston 5.Ivor Johnston 6.Sean Mc Caffrey 7.Chris Mc Dowell 8.Stevie Erskine 9.Jason Elliott 10.Ben Irwin 11.Addy Williamson 12.Neil Morrison 13.Paddy Mc Kernan 14.Keith Clarke

Fivemiletown United Seconds 1-9 Ballinamallard United Reserves

As the scoreline suggests the Seconds were always playing against the tide in this Mulhern Cup opener against high riding first division Ballinamallard. The two division gap and never looked like being closed, with the slick passing Mallards always in control. A pleasing aspect of this defeat was the never say die attitude of the Town players, battling right to the final whistle was rewarded when Ryan Finch grabbed a late consolation.

MOTM Glenn Mc Guckin

Lisbellaw United Reserves 7-0 Fivemiletown United Colts

In the First round of the Reihill cup the Thirds had the unenviable task of travelling to the first division cup holders Lisbellaw and although very under strength again worked hard but to no avail.

MOTM Cameron Crawford

Alan Nixon of the Presbyterian churches held another successful nights coaching for our Senior and youth teams on Thursday past and the club clubs would like to extend their thanks to him for his endeavours.

Saturday 27th February

Fivemiletown United Firsts and Seconds both recorded wins on Saturday.  The firsts defeated Lower Maze 3-1 away from home while the reserves emerged convincing 7-1 winners over Drum.

The first team player of the month is Adam Williamson and the reserve team award goes to Clint Palmer.

Monday 20th February

On Saturday the Town travelled to Glenavy to play struggling Crewe United and for the second game in a row left the pitch well beaten by the opposition. Although missing seven players this can be no excuse for the insipid second half performance when well on top in the opening 45.

The failure in the opening period to convert 3 or 4 chances which fell to the feet of the Town forward line, in a half which they were comfortably in control, came back to haunt them with a vengeance. Manager Parkinsons half time talk fell on deaf ears as a combination of shocking refereeing and an even more shocking performance from the players combined to complete a turnaround in fortunes that could not have been predicted by those in attendance.

The scoring opened 6 minutes into the second period, an innocuous corner found the head of an unmarked home forward, who easily nodded in.

One minute later and Crewe had doubled their lead beating the offside trap and once more beat a cruelly exposed Dynes.

The referee then decided to give Crewe a hand which they did not need by ludicrously allowing 2 offside goals in a six minute spell.

After Dynes was dismissed for bringing down the last man, Geoff Sharpe took over between the sticks and was promptly beaten from the resulting kick.

Ben Irwin reduced the deficit before Clarke and Baxter both missed spot kicks that would have put a different slant on the remaining 10.

Crewe made in six with 3 to go before the hard working Mc Caffrey got a deserved consolation.

Final Score Crewe United 6-2 Fivemiletown United

MOTM  Sean Mc Caffrey
The players should take stock of these last two performances and realise thatby producing such turgid outings they are doing a grave disservice to their manager.  Some of them need to display a little more pride in the shirt they wear and get a work ethic back into their own game before casting an accusing eye at other players who would sweat blood for the Town team.  I would challenge any of the 14 players involved on Saturday to ring me and I will inform them personally if I think they are underachieving. I would hope my phone rings off the hook. At least then they might convince me they are worthy of that shirt.

Monday 6th February

On Saturday the Town hosted struggling Seapatrick minus 7 players for various reasons and although a strong eleven took to the pitch, they returned a performance which should be quickly dispelled to the bin marked as “one of those days”

Minutes into the game Seapatrick were awarded a free, which was taken quickly with the Town napping and easily converted the opener.

The Town for much of the half contrived to waste chance after chance before the visitors doubled their lead on the stroke of half time. Chris Mc Dowell lost the flight of a cross and the waiting striker sweetly volleyed into the roof of the net.

Seven minutes after the break, it was game over, Seapatrick broke from their own half. A cross from the left found the feet of a Banbridge player who had the easy task of slotting home.

21 minutes into the second period Ian Davis failed to make a good connection, and his resulting miskick only served to lay the ball in the path of a Seapatrick player for their fourth.

Cameron Crawford entered the fray at this stage to make his First team debut and looked competent, underlining his potential. But he could do nothing about Seapatricks fifth, parrying well with calls for offside the vistors got the rub of the green and were allowed to send the ball to the net.

Final Score Fivemiletown United 0-5 Seapatrick

MOTM Geoff Sharpe

Fivemiletown United Colts 2-3 Beragh Swifts Reserves

The Colts compounded a bad day at the office for all three Town teams. Contriving to twice lose the lead, when looking comfortable.

MOTM Andy Kyle

Next week the Firsts are at home toTandragee Rovers. The Seconds will host neighbours Augher Stars. While the Colts have no scheduled fixture.

Monday 1st February
It was with regret that the club has learned of the passing of Maurice Gamble.  Maurice played for Fivemiletown United for over a decade in the 1950s and 1960s.  During this period he helped the club win numerous trophies including back to back Mercer Leagues and Mulhern Cups.

On a personal level Maurice was selected to play for a Fermanagh and Western XI and also made the step up to Irish League football playing for Belfast side, Distillery.  Maurice's father, Sam Gamble was also Chairman of the Club for a period of time in the 1950s.

More recently Maurice was a useful source of information for the club when research was being conducted on the club history.

The club would like to express its condolances to Maurice's family.

Saturday 30th January

On Saturday the Town hosted a rejuvenated Blackers Mill, who arrived at the Valley with the intention of closing down the game by playing 5 across the middle and settling for the odd foray into the Town half in search of what might prove to be a winner.  The tactic succeded in dragging the game into a hard fought but at times entertaining midfield battle.

It was 25 minutes before the first worthwhile effort on goal, Jason Gillespie turned well in the box and his low shot forced Ballantine in the visiting goal to save well.

Chris Mc Dowell’s probing free kicks paid off in the 30 minute, when a stinging delivery into a packed 18, from the left rebounded off a Mill defender  for the opener.

The only real threat from the Portadown men came just before the break, a looping cross evaded the Town backline, a Mill forward witrh space could only direct his header over the bar.

With 25 left on the clock the introduction of Stevie Erskine gave the Town an outlet for the greater possession they had enjoyed until this point.

He played in Jason Elliott who held the ball up well before teeing up Sean Mc Caffrey who drilled his shot wide.

With 10 left Erskine unlocked the Mill rearguard with a solo run and was unlucky to see his wicked shot creep wide of the upright.

Minutes later Erskine forced Ballantine into a fine save with his feet to keep the Mill’s hopes of an equaliser alive.

But Mc Caffrey dashed those fleeting hopes a minute into stoppage time, driving superbly down the right flank before driving a savage cross cum shot into the roof of a stranded Ballantine’s net.

Manager Parkinson will be very pleased with the nature of these three points. The team battled hard and got the better of the tactics which the visitors sought to use.  Mc Dowell was a threat all afternoon with quality free kicks and along with braveheart centre half Marcus Johnston closed out anything the visitors had to offer. Addy Williamson was a threat on the left side with some intelligent play and the desire of Mc Caffrey on the right side, bore fruit with that stunning winner.

Final Score Fivemiletown United 2-0 Blackers Mill

MOTM Chris Mc Dowell

The Second team game at home to Lisnarick fell victim to a heavy overnight frost much to the disappointment of a strong looking Second team panel.

Lisbellaw United Thirds 2-3 Fivemiletown United Colts

Gary Mc Cleans charges found this outing rather more taxing than last weeks engagement and had to scrap all the way for the points from this one. The three points gained sends Mc Cleans team up to third place in the league.

MOTM was hat trick hero Geoff Sharpe, with good returns from Garry Campbell, Glenn Mc Guckin and Dougie Breen.

Next week the Firsts are at home to Seapatrick. The Seconds will travel to league leaders Spamount Swifts, while the Colts host Beragh Swifts Reserves.

Training continues at FMT College Astro turf on Thursday nights at 7.15.

Saturday 23rd January

On Saturday the Town hosted Bourneview Ym in a league fixture at the Valley stadium and easily dispensed with their long ball threat by deploying Chris Mc Dowell in the sweeper role, he comfortably dealt with anything the Bourneview attack had to offer

Even though the Town were in command throughout it was Bourneview who opened the scoring. A sloppy kick out finding a Bourneview forward who did not need a second invite to gobble up his belated xmas present.

But that was to be the only slice of benevolence that the visitors were to receive. Jason Elliott restored parity on 44. Jason Gillespie released Sean Mc Caffrey whose cross picked out Elliott at the back post for a free header.

Town took the lead 2 minutes into first half stoppage time, Gillespie again the architect, this time creating room for Neil Morrison who displayed a little piece of trickery before sending a good effort into the top corner.

Ten minutes into the second period Elliott grabbed his brace taking the ball well on his chest, turning and firing a rocket, leaving the keeper no chance.

Ben Irwin entered the fray with 25 to go and instantly left his mark on proceedings. After a short corner Irwin controlled cleverly on the edge of the box and curled the ball beyond the keepers grasp.

With 15 to go  Irwin swapped poasses with Gillespie and completed his brace with a well directed shot.

With the Town pushing on in search of more goals Bourneview caught them on the break to clinch a consolation with only minutes left on the clock.

Final Score Fivemiletown United 5-2 Bourneview YM

MOTM Jason Gillespie,  with good outings from Johnston Mc Dowell and Elliott.

1.Chrissy Dynes 2.Ian Davis 3.Dessie Gilmour 4.Chris Mc Dowell 5.Marcus Johnston 6.Shane Mallon 7.Jason Gillespie 8.Neil Morrison 9.Jason Elliott 10.Sean Mc Caffrey 11.Addy Williamson 12.Ben Irwin 13.Keith Clarke 14.Gary Noble

An impressive return to league action for the Town and with several players to return to the fold along with new signing Ricky Carroll from Clabby, it gives manager Andy Parkinson a sound footing from which to progress.

Lisnarick 2-0 Fivemiletown United Seconds

Although the Seconds camped in Lisnaricks half for the duration of the second period they could not find a way past a stout rearguard and a very impressive Mc Cusker in the home goal. The Seconds never really had the guile to unlock a stubborn Lisnarick. The lack of a killer instinct in the last third of the pitch is a problem that needs to be overcome.

MOTM Matty Callaghan

Fivemiletown United Colts 4-2 Fintona Swifts Reserves

Gary Mc Cleans charges found this outing rather easier than expected, nosing four to the good through a Davy Kelly hatrick and a tenth goal of the season for Stevie Mc Caffrey, before Fintona found their feet and pegged two back.

Motm Davy Kelly, with Cameron Crawford, Emmett Lavery and Sam Gamble  very much to the fore.

Training continues at FMT College Astro turf on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7.15.

In the month of December Jason Elliott passed the 200 game mark for the Firsts. Well done to the big man.

On Saturday the Town's Home fixture against Tummery Athletic in the opening round of F&W Intermediate cup fell victim to the snow and frost and will be rescheduled for a later date.  The focus will now turn to the Premier cup final v Dollingstown to be played over the festive break at Crystal Park, home of Banbridge Town. The game is set for the 28th December with a 1.30pm KO. We enter the game as underdogs but that tag has been bestowed on us before and we have overturned the form book and the present team are well capable of doing so again.

The commemorative Premier Cup Final programme is now in circulation and thanks are extended to Chris Mc Dowell and Dawn Crawford for their superb effort in this publication.

Stuart Cochrane who sustained a bad knee injury at the beginning of last season enters hospital soon to repair the damage. All at the club wish Stuart well and look forward to seeing him back in the black and red.

Saturday 12th December

On Saturday the Town travelled to Portadown to play Bourneview YM returning home pointless after becoming architects of their own downfall. Profligacy in front of goal and an inability to deal with Bourneviews route one game presented the home team with an early xmas box in a one sided game possession wise, and left the Town bewildered as to how they lost this one.

Ivor Johnston and Shane Mallon were on target for the Town.

Final Score Bourneview YM 3-2 Fivemiletown  United

MOTM Sean Mc Caffrey.

The Seconds hosted Maguiresbridge at the Valley Stadium and after a close and at times ill tempered encounter, both teams were happy to take a share of the spoils into the xmas break.

Paul Benson and Ashley Mc Farland were the goalscorers, With the MOTM going to Matty Callaghan narrowly in front of Dougie Breen, Geoff Sharpe, Clint Palmer and John Simpson.

Final score Fivemiletown United Seconds 2-2 Maguiresbridge.

The Thirds lost heavily away to a strengthened Enniskillen Santos Reserves. A few first teamers and a home club ref who totally ignored the offside rule contributed to the Thirds demise.

Goalscorers were Nathan Williams and Dominic Mc Kernan.

MOTM Nathan Williams

Final score Enniskillen Santos Reserves 8-2  Fivemiletown United Colts

Next week the Firsts are at home to Tummery Athletic in the inaugural F&W  intermediate cup Round1, although at the time of writing this fixture may be in doubt.

Last week when announcing appearance achievements a glitch got into the system. It should have read “club stalwart Dougie Breen had attained 200 games for the Seconds in the month past” Well done Dougie.

The club held their xmas buffet on Saturday past in the Clubhouse. Jason Elliott and Cameron Crawford were the big winners on the night, leaving FMT with sacks over their shoulders after collecting the lion’s share of the prizes on offer from the Ricketety Wheel. The patrons were heard to comment that they looked like Santa Claus heading off into the night. One wag who shall remain nameless said Elliott plays like a big Santa every week!

Thanks are extended to club Chairman Gary Noble for his work in making the Buffet a success

The commemorative Premier Cup Final programme is now in circulation and thanks are extended to Chris Mc Dowell and Dawn Crawford for their superb effort in this publication.

Finally congratulations to Ian Davis and wife Helen on the arrival of their first child, a bouncing baby girl, Eden. The smiles on the Chiefs face at the buffet said it all

Saturday 5th December
On Saturday the Town hosted Draperstown Celtic in the second round of the WKD Intermediate cup. The visitors arrived determined not to let the heavy pitch be the deciding factor in this tie and proved to be a resilient and well organised team. Although the Town, possession wise, took the lions share of the game Celtic probably posed the greater attacking threat.

This fact was bore out as early as the 3rd minute, a Celtic raid down the left turn his marker all to easily and fired a warning shot over Chrissy Dynes bar.  Less than a minute later Celtic again created room for themselves unleashing a stinging shot once more over Dynes bar.

At this stage the Town began to settle down, bringing their better passing game to the fore, carving open the visitors, Paddy Mc Kernan releasing Jason Elliott who drove his effort into the side netting.  On the half hour Jason Gillespie ghosted past two defenders but could not quite get his shot on target and rippled the side netting.

The second half started in the same vein as the opening 45, Town playing the better football but Celtic looking more dangerous in the final third. A couple more warning shots were soaked up by the home backline before Celtic took the lead on 53. A rasping free kick on the edge of the Town 18 caused Dynes problems and a Celtic forward was on hand to stab home.
Six minutes later Paddy Mc Kernan teased a cross to Celtics rear post and Gillespie bravely dived low to head in for the leveller.  65 minutes in and the Towns better craft allowed them to take the lead, Gillespie and Elliott combining to release Mc Kernan, who made no mistake.  The joy was short lived, the Towns rearguard failed to cover adequately and a Celtic player nodded in.

For the closing 20 minutes Celtic looked the more likely of the two teams to grab a winner Dynes with a brilliant save when wrong footed kept the home goal intact.  As ref Ronnie Graham was inhaling for a final blast of his whistle Ivor Johnston guided the ball past the visting netminder to clinch the winner for the Town and another home tie v Rosario YC in the third round.

Final Score Fivemiletown  United 3-2 Draperstown Celtic

MOTM Chris Mc Dowell

The Thirds hosted Enniskillen Swifts Reserves and clinched all three points for the second game in a row with a 3-2  victory.

Nathan Williams, Kieran Murphy and Jason Irvine were on hand to score the goals.

MOTM Williams with good outings from Murphy, Dominic Kernan and Gareth Mc Guckin.

The month past ,seen several appearance milestones achieved. In the Firsts  Marcus Johnston completed 100 games and Dessie Gilmour usurped 250. In the Seconds club stalwart passed the 200 mark and Dominic Mc Kernan achieved 50. While in the Thirds Stevie Mc Caffrey completed 50.

The club would like to extend their thanks to Alan Nixon from the combined  churches for travelling down from Belfast, coaching the Seniors on Thursday past and taking a session for the Youths on Saturday morning. Both events were warmly received and appreciated by our players.

    Saturday 28th November
On Saturday the Town travelled to Larne to play Wellington Rec in the irish cup third round at the second time of asking. After 90 minutes the team returned home aggrieved at not having achieved passage into the 4th round. The home team took the lead after 15 minutes, a quick free kick caught the Town rearguard still organising and the chance was gratefully accepted.  The Rec supporters were still celebrating when Jason Gillespie drew the teams level with a header.  Although the Town were dominating proceedings, Rec once more took the lead, a quick throw deep in the Town half allowed the homesters to find space and clip a good shot past Chris Dynes.  Deep into first half injury time Keith Clarke forced the home keeper into  a fine save to parry Clarkes stinging drive for a corner. Chris Mc Dowell sent over a well weighted ball and Marcus Johnston drove a bullet header, which the keeper, although getting a hand to it, could not keep it out  of the net.
After the break the Town maintained the pressure, Sean Mc Caffrey steered a header wide when well placed and Jason Elliott forced the keeper once more into a fine stop.  But all the good work was undone with one mistake from the referee, an innocuous looking Johnston challenge, which was a yard outside the box, incredulously seen the ref point to the spot with 30 remaining. The home team did not seek a second invitation and converted from the spot.
At this juncture Rec changed shape, bringing on a extra defender to try and shut the Town out. The Town bench responded in kind, moving to a more attacking formation.   The final nail was driven home with two minutes remaining with the Town  pressing for a leveller Rec broke from the back and against the run of play notched their fourth and the tie winner.
Final Score Wellington Rec 4-2 Fivemiletown  United

    MOTM Chris Mc Dowell

The Seconds spent their sixth week in row without a game with  scheduled opponents Omagh Hospitals playing in the Irish Junior cup.

The Thirds travelled to Dergview Thirds and clinched all three points with a comfortable 4-0 victory.  Davy Kelly, Ashley Mc Farland, Nathan Williams and Jason Irvine were on target.  MOTM Ashley Mc Farland with good outings from Williams, Jamie Dunlop and Geoff Sharpe.
Final score  Dergview Thirds 0-4 Fivemiletown United Colts

The Third team POTM award for November goes to Geoff Sharpe. The Firsts and Seconds did not play enough games to qualify for an award.

    Saturday 7th November

On Saturday even though an early morning pitch inspection deemed the pitch playable and after a concerted effort by members of the committee to free the surface from water, the match official, Jarlath Mc Elhom, when he arrived rightly said the pitch was dangerous to play on and called the scheduled Fermanagh and Western Intermediate cup match v Tummery Athletic off.

With the Second team game at home to Lisnarick falling victim to the weather on Friday morning the spotlight fell on the Colts away fixture to Fintona Swifts Reserves.

This was a game were the opposing defences felt in a benevolent mood, with supporters sharing in a 9 goal thriller.

Fintona struck first when it looked like they had been caught in the offside trap the ref allowed play to continue and they gleefully gobbled up the chance.

Their joy was short-lived however, Aidan Cassidy, on his debut, steered a tremendous shot beyond the reach of the home keeper to level the scores. The opening half continued in the vein of all out attack by both teams.

Fintona edged in front when Cathal Mc Girr spilled a shot, with the homesters reacting first to the loose ball to slot the ball in.

Just before the break an Emmett Lavery corner found the head of Geoff Sharpe to nod in, once more to level the scores.

Three minutes after the break a teasing cross from Jamie Dunlop allowed Cassidy to rise highest a power a header beyond the grasp of the home custodian.

Fintona hit back immediately. Mc Girr got down well to parry a shot but his defenders let him down when they failed again to react to the second ball allowing an easy conversion.

55 and Fintona took the lead once more Mc Girr failed to hold a shot and the ball squirmed from his grasp and into the net.

57 Fintona were awarded a terrible penalty which they dispatched for 5-3.

Geoff Sharpe stroked home a penalty on 60 minutes after a Fintona player had handled the ball on the line and incredibly was not even booked.

The scoring spree petered out after this incident with the Colts probing but never really troubling the Fintona backline further.

1.Cathal Mc Girr 2.Barr Mc Kenna 3. Jamie Dunlop 4. Andy Kyle 5. Mark Johnston 6. Adam Black 7. Aidan Cassidy 8. Jamie Donnelly 9. Geoff Sharpe 10. Nathyan Williams 11. Emmett Lavery 12. Kieran Murphy 13. Jason Irvine 14 Timmy Coote.

    Saturday 31st October

On Saturday the Firsts hosted Amateur league 1A pacesetters UUJ in an Irish Cup second round tie at the Valley Stadium.

This game on paper looked like a close encounter and although the scoreline suggests this to be the case the Town were always in control.

If Chris Mc Dowell was the driving force behind this result then Paddy Mc Kernan was certainly the architect in chief, in unlocking and tormenting the visitors for most of the 90 minutes.

Although the sides were deadlocked at the interval the better chances of the opening half fell to the Town. Dessie Gilmour, Shane Mallon and Jason Elliott all coming close, with Gareth Mc Guckin, deputising for Chrissy Dynes, looking sound in the home goal.

Seconds after the restart Mc Kernan jinxed past two defenders ,before crossing into the box and Stevie Erskine was on hand to guide the ball in for the opener.

54 and the visitors levelled with the Town midfield and rearguard lying too deep they invited UUJ on and they did not need a second invitation surging forward, a through ball split the Town defence and an innocuous looking shot found its way to the net for the leveller.

Two minutes later Mc Kernan again unlocked UUJ, putting Elliott in on goal who calmly slotted the ball in to regain a deserved lead.

The same combination again worked well only for Elliott to stumble when well placed.

On 64 Jordanstown again got themselves back on track with the Town sitting back on their lead. A shot from 40 yards found its way past Mc Guckin.

But the UUJ equaliser stung the Town onto the attack, were they had always looked in control and once more Mc Kernan exchanging passes with Mc Dowell allowed the latter to fire the winner.
Final score Fivemiletown United 3-2 UUJ

An U18 team missing 7 regulars, suffered another blow in the warm up for their Harry Cavan Youth cup second round game v Ballymoney United Colts when Niall Murphy dislocated his knee cap.

The team put in a battling performance, Ian Allen giving the Town the lead early on, but Ballymoney fought back to clinch the tie 3-1.

    MOTM Jamie Dunlop.

The club's Mini Soccer School will recommence on Saturday morning, starting at 9am.

Training for the seniors continues at FMT College on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7.15 pm.

There was no winner of the lucky 6 last week.

The terrible injury suffered by Niall Murphy in the warm up for the Youth cup game will keep him out for 6 to 8 weeks. A blow to himself and the Second team in which he normally plays. The club extend their best wishes to Niall and wish him a speedy recovery.

Due to the adverse weather conditions all Fivemiletown United matches were cancelled.  The Irish Cup tie against UUJ and Harry Cavan Youth match against Ballymoney will now take place next Saturday.  The referees association and Richard Anderson in particular are to be thanked for their speedy response to our request for a pitch inspection allowing us to notify the travelling teams before they departed Belfast and Ballymoney.

In a good weekend for Mid Ulster teams the Irish Cup ties that did take place included wins for Warrenpoint Town (v Hanover), Dollingstown (v Dromara Village), Omagh United (v Kilmore Rec) and Ballymacash Rangers (v Downpatrick).

    Saturday 17th October

On Saturday the Firsts hosted Seapatrick in a much anticipated Premier cup semi final and even with the Seconds and Thirds playing, a large crowd was still in attendance. The scoring was opened in the 11th minute,  a Jason Elliott shot was fumbled by the keeper with an alert Jason Gillespie on hand to convert. The rest of the period, the Town held the upper hand without really punishing Seapatrick and the one goal was all that separated the teams at the break.

A lethargic Town emerged for the second half and allowed Seapatrick a foothold back in the game and on 53 they levelled matters, a long ball getting in behind the Town defence with the pacy visiting striker finding room to stab home.

Seapatrick were in the ascendancy now and another surge into the Town box forced Chrissy Dynes to burst from his line and in attempt to save upended the Seapatrick forward in the box. The ref pointed to the spot and Dynes seemed fortuitous to remain on the pitch. But he redeemed himself with a superb save to deny the visitors from 12 yards.

The save was the catalyst that spurred the homesters back into action, finally forcing a corner. Ivor Johnston with an intelligent run across the box steered a bullet header into the net for what proved to be the winner

Final score Fivemiletown United 2-1 Seapatrick

    MOTM Ivor Johnston

The Seconds  again missing  7 players travelled to Omagh  for the second week in a row this time to play Dunbreen Rovers  and returned empty handed. A poor first half left the Seconds two down. But they emerged rejuvenated for the second  45 and pinned Dunbreen back for long periods. A Paul Benson goal threw the Town a lifeline with 25 minutes left  but try as they might the young Town team could not unlock Dunbreen again.  Mattie Callaghan sustained a nasty ankle injury which will keep him out for a least a month. The club would like to wish him a speedy recovery.

    MOTM Gary Robinson

The Thirds claimed all three points at home to Enniskillen Town Colts. Stevie Mc Caffrey with a brace, Jamie Donnelly, Nathan Williams and Packie Mc Cafffrey netting our goals.

    MOTM Stevie Mc Caffrey.

The first regionalised BKYL primary school  mini soccer blitz between The Town, Lisbellaw, and Orchard Farm  took place on Saturday past and an enjoyable morning was had by all the children in attendance. Lisnaskea Rovers, disappointingly decided not to take part denying their charges the chance to partake in a worthwhile morning’s football.

The clubs Mini Soccer school will continue as usual on Saturday morning, starting at 9am.

Training for the seniors continues at FMT College on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7.15 pm.

There was no winner of the lucky 6 last week. Davy Mc Nutt from Beragh winning the draw for a tenner.

Along with the injury sustained by Mattie Callaghan while playing for the Seconds at the weekend, Ben Irwin suffered a severe injury to his knee playing for FMT College against RBAI in the U18 schools cup on Wednesday. Both boys will be on the sidelines for a long period and the club would wish them a speedy recovery.

Finally, club stalwart Gary Robinson and his girlfriend Dawn leave our ranks for the rest of the season for six months of antipodean adventures in the land of oz. Losing Robbo for six months will be a blow to the club on and off the field. People like Robbo, who are willing to give of their own time for the clubs cause are few and far between.  So Robbo and Dawn enjoy your travels but hurry back.

    Saturday 10th October

On Saturday the Firsts hosted Ballymacash Rangers in the Towns first league fixture for nearly a month and a much improved performance was required if last week’s insipid outing was to be forgotten and league points garnered.

An opening 45 minutes in which only the brilliance of Chrissy Dynes between the posts kept the home team in this game, stopped the Town being routed before the break.

With Dynes steadfast he, for the most part kept the score at the interval to a solitary goal for the visitors, which looked suspiciously offside.

The usually unflappable Andy Parkinson, at half time let his players know in no uncertain terms what he thought of the opening period and his charges responded with a second half that left the visitors battered and bewildered.

Seconds in Ashley Mc Farland cracked a fine right foot effort from the edge of the box to level. And in a twenty minute salvo Ballymacash were wondering where it all went wrong.

Paddy Mc Kernan was instrumental in the second his probing pass creating chaos before Jason Elliott with an overhead kick left the Rangers netminder with no chance.

    75. A mazy run down the left from Dessie Gilmour, evading four tackles, before he slotted in number 3.

Two minutes later, Shane Mallon with his first touch after coming onto the pitch, fired an unstoppable piledriver into the roof of the net.

Seven from time Elliott was on hand again to convert a Stevie Erskine supplied ball, for number 5.

Ivor Johnston was once again outstanding, electing to play on with a nasty head wound. Chris Mc Dowell and Keith Clarke were the driving force behind the second half turnaround. And Jason Elliotts 2 goals showed a poachers instinct.

Final score Fivemiletown United 5-1 Ballymacash Rangers

    MOTM Ivor Johnston

    1.Chris Dynes 2.Addy Williamson 3.Dessie Gilmour 4.Ian Davis 5.Ivor Johnston 6.Keith Clarke  7.Chris Mc Dowell 8.Ashley Mc Farland 9.Jason Elliott10.Ben Irwin  11.Paddy Mc Kernan 12.Shane Mallon 13. Marcus Johnston 14. Stevie Erskine.

The Seconds  missing  7 players travelled to Omagh to play Drum United and returned with all three points after their best game of the season. The youngsters who came into the team grabbed their opportunity with both hands.

Gary Robinson was on hand to score the winner and claim MOTM honours. The Murphy brothers, Niall and making his full debut, Kieran, had good outings, with Matty Callaghan outlining his potential in the midfield alongside Robinson.

The Thirds were well beaten at home to Enniskillen Rangers Reserves losing 0-6. MOTM Mark Johnston.

Next week the First team host Seapatrick in the semi final of the Premier cup. The Seconds are on the road again to Omagh. This time to play Dunbreen Rovers. While the Thirds entertain Enniskillen Town Colts.

    FIVEMILETOWN UNITED NOTES 12.9.09

On Saturday the Firsts hosted Tandragee Rovers in the Second round of the Premier cup, in what was to prove an enthralling tie. With the Town at virtual full strength the pressure was on to deliver a decent return  for the large crowd in attendance, and they did not disappoint.

The game was always close with both sides probing for an opener, testing their opposing defences. The Town back line with Ian Davis restored to his normal position looked a solid unit and the eccentric Dynes ,back in goal ,made a miraculous stop with his feet at one stage to preserve the status quo.

The Town made the incisive breakthrough on 60 minutes. Rover’s keeper had made a great double save before Dessie Gilmour got his head to loose ball to give the Town the lead which they never threatened to relinquish .

Overall  this was a good outing from the home team looking solid and industrious with maybe the need for a cutting edge

Final score Fivemiletown United 1-0 Tandragee Rovers

Last week Dolores Moore from Clogher picked up £125 when she was the only person to correctly predict the score from the weeks selected six matches. She told me the win had come at a very opportune time, as she had her eye on a very expensive handbag that hubby Brian was resisting opening the purse strings for.

The club would like to extend their thanks to Cavanaleck and Aughentaine Presbyterian Churches for the fine pre match fayre  whichthey served to the First team and Committee before Saturdays fixture against Tandragee. Saturday 3rd October

On Saturday the Firsts travelled to Armagh to play Blackers Mill in the opening round of Mid Ulster Senior cup. After last weeks impressive defeat of Tandragee, the Town never came out of the starting blocks in this one. Fivemiletown always held the upper hand against the home team but failed to take the chances that came their way. The Town never adapted or changed their pattern of play and ultimately paid the price when Blackers Mill got out of jail and progressed to the next round courtesy of spot kicks.

Mill opened the scoring after 30 minutes well against the run of play, a winger cutting in from the right, fired a shot across the Town box which somehow found its way into the net.

9 minutes into the second half, a long Chrissy Dynes clearance found Paddy Mc Kernan who cleverly laid off for the incoming Ashley Mc Farland to convert for the leveller.

Final score Blackers Mill 1-1 Fivemiletown United.  Mill won 5-4 on Penalties

    Saturday 5th September

    Fivemiletown United 4-1 Crewe United

On Saturday the Firsts hosted Crewe United and clinched the three points on offer with plenty left in the tank.

A much strengthened Town side took to the pitch determined to put last weeks cup defeat behind themselves, playing with a passion and zeal they set about Crewe pinning them back in their half for long periods.

It was Crewe who took an unlikely lead in the 24th minute, Chrissy Dynes, with an uncharistic faux pas gifting crewe the opener. The Town however were not to be knocked out of their stride immediately putting Crewe on the backfoot again with Paddy Mc Kernan finally levelling matters on the stroke of half time.

For all the possession it took the Town a further 31 minutes before they finally took a deserved lead, Jason Gillespie levelling from the spot. Mc Kernan swooped for his second almost from Crewes centre to put the game beyond doubt before sub Stevie Erskine came off the bench to notch the fourth.

Ivor Johnston returned effortlessly to the back four with Gillespie and Ian Davis strong in the middle of the park. But an all round fine performance would have sent Manager Andy Parkinson home happy.

Enniskillen Swifts Reserves 1-2 Fivemiletown Utd Colts

The Thirds gritty 2-1 away win over Enniskillen Swifts Reserves was marred by the unfortunate injuries suffered by Davy Kelly and young keeper Cameron Crawford. Camerons injury has been confirmed as a broken wrist with Davy sustaining what seems to be a bad knee injury.

Warrenpoint Town 2-1 Fivemiletown United (Marshall Cup)

The Firsts travelled to Warrenpoint Town for an opening round match in the Marshall cup missing six regulars but conjured up a sterling performance to force the game into extra time only to lose out on a 2-1 scoreline, after the initial 90 were tied a 1-1.

Although Warrenpoint held the upper hand possession wise for most of the game the Town rearguard handled anything the home team threw at them until Point finally broke through in the 73rd minute. But 3 minutes from time a town rally forced a home defender to stab the ball past his own netminder and push the tie into extra time. It was in the second period that Point finally clinched the winner and their passage into the next round.

In the second half Lower Maze took the lead before the Town equalised again when Elliott finished off a left wing Baxter cross. With the full time whistle approaching Ian Davis had a shot from outside the box with the ball finding its way into the net and securing the win.

Fivemiletown picked up their first point of the season with a 2-2 draw away to newly promoted Omagh United. The Town took the lead in the first half when Dessie Gilmour fired in from close range. The lead was nearly doubled later on in the half when Erskine went clear and lobbed the ball over the Keeper into the Omagh net only for the referee to controversially rule it offside.

In the second half Roy McCreadie's men drew level only for a Jason Gillespie header to put Fivemiletown back in the lead. Omagh gradually increased the pressure and were rewarded late on with their second equalizer. At full time the Fivemiletown supporters left frustrated at seeing their side lose the lead twice but satisfied with a committed and hard working performance.

    Fivemiletown United Notes - 2nd May 2009
On Saturday the First team hosted high flying Tandragee Rovers at the King George Playing Fields in what was always going to be a close encounter and so it proved, with very little between the two teams for the 90 minutes.

Things looked ominous after 3 minutes, when a poor Gary Stewart kick out fell at the feet of a waiting Tandragee forward who duly chipped the stranded net minder for the opener. But the home team were not fazed by this quick deficit and fought back, holding the upper hand for the rest of the period. Jason Gillespie headed onto the post after a long Jason Elliott throw. That was the closest the Town came to leveller despite a couple more strikes on goal, in the first half.

The second period continued in the same vein, the Town in control but Tandragee dangerous on the break until Adam Black replaced Elliott adding a much needed urgency at this stage with 31 minutes left. Black himself was on hand to grab the equalizer on 72 after a scramble in the box Black fired low into the goal. With just seconds left on the clock, Jason Gillespie beat two defenders and fired past an exposed keeper for the winner.

This was a solid performance from the team, which looked strong all through the ranks, clinching the 3 points to consolidate their place in the top half of the table.

Next week the Firsts entertain Bourneview Y.M, with the King Georges again the venue for this one at 2.15pm.

The U13 team went down 2-5 at home to Mountjoy Juniors. MOTM Marc Mc Connell and Ryan Mc Cormick scoring our goals.

The U14 team also lost out 2-3 at home to Ardstraw Youth. Marc Mc Connell and Matty Ralph netting the goals. Neil Trotter MOTM.

Youth Fixtures for the coming week are Saturday 9th May U13s away to NFC Kesh Youth. U14s Monday 11th Home v Enniskillen Rangers Youth. U15s Wednesday 6th away v Enniskillen Town Colts. U16s Friday 8th away v Ballinamallard Youth A.

Senior training has now ceased for the season, BKYL training at the College Astro turf on Thursday nights continues at 6pm.

The Mini soccer centre reopens this Saturday morning at the Valley Stadium at 9.30pm.

The club would like to extend their deepest condolences to the family of former Chairman Wilfred Anderson who passed away suddenly last week. Wilfy as he was affectionately known, will be widely missed by the entire local community, for which he worked so hard.

    Fivemiletown United Notes - 25th April 2009
On Saturday the First team hosted Lurgan Town Boys in a league fixture at the unfamiliar surroundings of the King George Playing Fields and after a lacklustre opening 15 minutes in which they found themselves 2 down, they took control of matters to grind out a 4-2 victory and move back into the top half of the table.

A Jason Gillespie hat trick and a Darren Rogers header completed the scoring.

MOTM Gillespie. There were good outings from Chris Mc Dowell, Dessie Gilmour and Rogers.

Next week Tandragee Rovers will be the visitors to The King Georges.

The Seconds in Mid week clinched a hard fought 1-0 away win v Orchard Farm, when a superb strike from Kieran Murphy finally unlocked a home rearguard with 10 minutes left on the clock.

Congratulations to Gary Mc Clean and his Third team charges on clinching promotion recently with a home win over Churchtown Colts. His young team allayed with the more experienced players worked hard throughtout the season playing the game in the true spirit and were deserving of their reward.

It is hoped their medals will be available for the club dinner on the first Friday in June.

Chris Mc Dowell's U13 team were the only winners on the youth front this week, winning 2-1 away to Lisbellaw United Youth.

The U14s lost out 5-4 in a titanic struggle with Dergview Juniors, coming back from 5-0 down after a great second half fightback.

The U15s lost out 2-0 away to Ballinamallard Youth. While the U16s went down 4-0 away to Lisnaskea Rovers Youth.

Senior training has now ceased for the season, BKYL training at the College Astro turf on Thursday nights continues at 6pm.

The Mini soccer centre will be closed for the May day bank holiday weekend resuming again on Saturday 9th May at 9.30 am.

    Fivemiletown United Notes - 4th April 2009
The First team fixture at home to Lurgan Town fell victim to Friday nights heavy rain and with the Seconds and Thirds having no scheduled matches the local support were starved of Senior action this week.

But that allowed the BKYL teams to take centre stage.

The U14 team were at home in a friendly fixture to Lisnaskea Rovers Youth going down 5-3 to the visitors. New Captain Kris Hamilton took the MOTM honours with a good return from Paul Mc Girr in what was his first ever organised soccer match.

On Wednesday night the U15 again met opposition from Lisnaskea, this time the teams could not be separated with a 1-1 scoreline. Adam Kirkland MOTM. Gary Phair scoring our goal.

Friday was the turn of the U16 team, again at home, this time to Ballinamallard Youth B and although numerically disadvantaged for the entire game still managed to get their campaign of to a winning start. MOTM Ian Allen scoring the game only goal to take an unlikely 3 points.

A very understrength U13 team travelled to Dergview Juniors on Saturday morning and although 2 up at the break Dergview came out strong in the second period to take a 6-2 victory.

Gary Trotter scoring our goals and taking the MOTM.

Next week the First team will host Warrenpoint Town. The Second and Third team fixtures are not known at the time of writing.

    Upcoming BKYL games:

Saturday 11th April U13 home v Enniskillen Town Colts.
Monday 13th April U14 home v Lisbellaw United Youth
Friday 10th April U16 away v NFC Kesh Youth
Wednesday 8th April U15 away v Lisbellaw United Youth

Training for the seniors continues on Thursday night at the Astro turf at 7 pm. The BKYL teams, at the same venue and night continue their training at 6pm.

    Fivemiletown United Notes - 28th March 2009
On Saturday the Town travelled to Tandragee Leisure Centre to play Bourneview YM in a Mid Ulster league fixture and made the return journey to the Valley, fruitless.

An insipid performance, which seemed bereft of ideas, could not unlock a resolute Bourneview rearguard and a couple of errors in our own defence handed the three points to the home team.

In an even tempered and sporting game the Town, at times played some neat passages of football but never had that cutting edge which has been lacking so often this season to seriously threaten Bourneview.

The opening goal came in the first quarter. Jamie Callaghan in the Town goal let an innocuous looking shot squirm out of his grasp and into the goal to give Bourneview a lead, at that stage, they hardly deserved.

Number two in the second half also came about through lack of concentration, the back four were caught napping, allowing a Bourneview forward to nip in and convert.

Final Score Bourneview YM 2-0 Fivemiletown United

    MOTM Dessie Gilmour

Next week the First team are at home to Lurgan Town. If a push for a top six finish is to maintained then a much improved outing has to achieved. Gilmour and Shane Mallon were the only two players who rose to the challenge on Saturday. To many guys decided to go missing at the same time and need to examine this outing carefully.

The Seconds and Thirds had no fixture and Saturdays games are not known at the time of writing.

The BKYL begins this week with fixtures as follows. Saturday 4th April U13 away v Dergview Juniors. Monday 6th April U14 away v Churchtown Youth. Wednesday 8th April U15 away v Lisbellaw United Youth. Friday 3rd April U16 home v Ballinmallard Youth B.

The managers for this years teams are U13 Chris Mc Dowell, U14 Fergal Hackett, U15 Gary Noble and U16 Gary Robinson.

Training for the Seniors continues on Thursday night at the School astro turf at 7 pm.

BKYL training is also as usual on Thursday night at the same venue beginning at 6pm. While Mini soccer for primary school and year 8 kids will be held at the Valley Stadium on Saturday mornings at 9.30am

The Player of the Month awards for March were as follows. First team, Shane Mallon. Seconds Niall Murphy and in the Thirds, Matty Callaghan

    BKYL Awards Dinners

Fivemiletown United Juniors win Fair Play Award

On Friday 20th March in the Silverbirch Hotel Omagh, members of Fivemiletown United attended the 11th annual dinner of the Brendan Keogh Youth League. It turned out to be a very fine night for FMT Juniors as the Under 14 team won the fair play award for their respective age group for the first time. It got even better when it was announced that all 4 teams won the overall fair play award also for the first time in their history.
Picking up the awards were two members of the Under 14 side, Cameron Crawford and Ryan McCusker. Also in attendance were Oswald Crawford, proprietor of Office Repair Centre which sponsors the Under 13's, David & Michelle McQuigg, Under 13 manager Chris McDowell and Under 14 manager Gary Robinson.

    Fivemiletown United Notes - 21st March 2009
On Saturday a very weakened First team travelled to Tandragee to play Blackers Mill in a league fixture. With 8 regular picks missing for one reason or another this was always going to be an uphill battle although the team dug deep to make the home team work hard for their points.

Two first half goals and a host of missed chances from our misfiring forwards allowed Blackers to clinch all three points on offer.

    MOTM Shane Mallon.

Final score Blackers Mill 2-0 Fivemiletown United.

The Seconds while always in control had to rely on a late Gary Noble goal to take the spoils against a very sporting and much improved Drum United.

MOTM Clint Palmer with good performances from the emerging Niall Murphy, Geoff Sharpe and Gary Robinson.

The Thirds in their must win clash against local rivals Clabby Strollers Reserves came out on the positive end of a seven goal thriller.

MOTM Jason Gillespie with a brace, Davy Kelly and Stevie McCaffrey scored our goals with good shifts from Chris McDowell, Matty Callaghan and McCaffrey.

If victory is achieved in their final fixture at home to Churchtown Colts then they would at least clinch a promotion play off.

Next week the Firsts will travel back to Tandragee this time to play Bourneview Y.M . Fixtures for the Seconds and Thirds are not known at time of writing.

Senior Training will be on Thursday nights only, from now until the end of season, commencing 7pm at Fivemiletown College astro turf.

Youth team training for the BKYL teams also continues on Thursday nights at the same venue beginning at 6pm, new members are always welcome.

The mini soccer for primary school and year 8 children is at the normal 9.30 am time slot at the Valley Stadium on Saturday mornings.

The Club’s annual games night was held on Saturday night in the clubhouse. Jason Elliott went home with the largest booty when he retained his darts title and added the crown of pool champion for the first time, allayed to this he added a runners up in the connect 4 and a third place in the pro evo.

Addy Williamson once again won the connect 4 with Jamie Callaghan taking a first title in the pro evo.

    FIVEMILETOWN UNITED NOTES 7-3-09
On Saturday the Town travelled to Portadown to play Hanover. The recent upturn in fortunes continued even with a weakened team they controlled matters from start to finish, taking all three points on offer after two goals from a hard working Andy Copeland.

Jamie Callaghan in goal was largely untroubled such was the comfortable nature of the game.

Ben Irwin created the opener in the first half, cutting in from the right and unleashing a shot, which the keeper could only parry to the predatory Copeland to tap home.

Copeland’s high work rate forced the winner in the second period after a hurried back pass allowed him to nip in between defender and keeper to gleefully gobble up the chance.

Final score Hanover 0-2 Fivemiletown United

    MOTM Chris Mc Dowell

1.Jamie Callaghan 2. Addy Williamson 3. Dessie Gilmour 4. Chris Mc Dowell 5. Ian Davis 6. Shane Mallon 7. Eddie Davis 8. Andy Copeland 9. Stevie Erskine 10. Ben Irwin 11. Mark Stewart 12. Jason Gillespie 14. Ivor Johnston

With only 2 goals conceded in the last four games a much improved rearguard has been the catalyst for the teams upturn in fortunes. Mc Dowell, Davis and Gilmour were rocks at the back, Mallon in the middle has discovered the form which deserted him in the early part of the campaign, while Copeland up front with his previously mentioned high workrate will always unnerve defenders.

Although going down 2-0 at home to Drumquin United the Seconds with the recent inclusion of Geoff Sharpe and Clint Palmer look a more solid team. These guys along with Gareth Mc Guckin bring experience and steel to what was previously, although talented, a very young and raw team.

The visitors were made to work hard for their victory and if this young team had taken the three very good chances that came their way the outcome would have been different.

    MOTM Geoff Sharpe.

The Thirds 3-2 away success over Dergview Thirds kept their promotion dream firmly on course. An initial 2-0 lead thanks to strikes from Kieran Murphy and MOTM Keith Clarke was whittled away in the second period, leaving a tense closing period. It was the Thirds who held their nerve to force a Dergview defender to nod past his own keeper.

If Gary McClean’s charges win their last two games then promotion will be achieved. Good performances also from Gaz Mallaghan, the emerging Matty Callaghan and Aidey McCaffrey.

Youth training continues on Thursday night at Fivemiletown College astro turf between 6pm and 7pm and Saturday mornings at the Valley Stadium between 9.30 am and 10.30 am. All new members will be warmly welcomed. Contact Davy on 07977476224 for further details.

Senior training continues on Tuesday and Thursday starting at 7pm also on the astro turf.

    Fivemiletown Notes - 21st February 2009
The First team travelled to Lurgan Town on Saturday for what was considered a crucial fixture if the Town were to kick start their faltering season.

It was a challenge the team met head on and dominated proceedings to return home with a comfortable 3 points.

After an opening 40 minutes in which the Town held the upper hand but failed to turn dominance into goals, doubts started to set in but these were dispelled in a two minute, period before the break. Ian Davis and Jason Elliott combined to release Chris Mc Dowell who slid the ball under the advancing goalkeeper.

After the restart Andy Copeland who had been industrious throughout the first half was needlessly fouled inside the box and Mc Dowell did not need a second invitation to clinch his brace from the spot.

Copeland was again involved after the break, when after a surging run he picked out Elliott who tucked the ball away for number three.

Lurgan threw themselves a lifeline when they narrowed the deficit a few minutes later but their renewed hopes were to be shortlived after Copeland again turned provider to leave Mark Stewart the simple task of converting for 4.

The scoring was completed in the closing stages, Dessie Gilmour after good work down the left picked out Copeland who netted, deservedly getting his name on the score sheet.

Final score Lurgan Town 1-5 Fivemiletown United

    MOTM Andy Copeland.

Copeland may have taken the MOTM award for the Town but Gilmour, Mc Dowell and Marcus Johnston were very much to the fore with strong performances.

With four players missing for the Lurgan game a stronger panel should travel next week with optimism to Lisburn to play Ballymacash Rangers.

The Seconds recent good run came to an end after an understrength side went down, 4-0 away to Drumquin United.

After a stout defensive display in the first half in which the Town restricted the dominant Drumquin to mostly long range efforts. Their good work was to be undone seconds before the break when the home team reacted quickest to a breaking ball after a corner to stab the ball home.

A higher line in the second period cancelled out Drumquins first half free flowing game but it was at this point that that the match official, who had a Drumquin supporter incredibly timing the game for him, when he turned up without flags or a watch, took a hand in proceedings.

A penalty awarded against Geoff Sharpe doubled the home teams advantage.

The farcical refereeing continued when a succession Drumquin attacks were allowed to continue even though well offside. The Drumquin timekeeper on the sideline also seemed to influence the referee after Dominic Mc Kernan was hauled back when he seemed destined to score denying the Town a stonewall penalty and what surely should have been a red card for the offender.

Less than a minute later the home home team went three up after another offside was ignored further the away line.

Incredibly Gareth Mc Guckin was sent off after an altercation in which both players done exactly the same thing yet one was sent off and the other not even spoken to.

Minutes from the end the worst penalty I have ever seen awarded was given to Drumquin after a nothing challenge from Adam Baxter once again seen the ref point to the spot.

Inept whistling like this besmirches the many fine men and women in black who ply their trade in the local game. It also sends out a terrible example to young players who are on the receiving end of these decisions

    MOTM Geoff Sharpe.

The Thirds crashed to a 6-2 home defeat at the hands of promotion rivals Clabby Strollers Reserves, goals from Davy Kelly and Stevie Mc Caffrey were never enough to seriously trouble a physically stronger visiting team.

    MOTM Matty Callaghan.

Next week the Seconds are on the road again, this time to Ballygawley while the Thirds will host Maguiresbridge Reserves.

The Mid Ulster Youth team achieved a fine 7-1 victory of an extremely ill mannered Saint Marys team.

MOTM was again Conor Mc Caffrey, with braces from Jakub Isbaner and Kris Hamilton and singles from Gary Trotter, Joe Hall and Adam Miller netting our goals.

A succession of appearance milestones was achieved in the last two months. Gary Robinson and Jason Gillespie passed the 100 mark. While Ashley Mc Farland Shane Mallon and Gary Stewart all passed the 50 mark for the First team.

In the Seconds Geoff Sharpe and Sean Mc Caffrey both surpassed 50. And in the Thirds Davy Kelly and Warren Ferguson edged passed the 50 mark. Popular opinion for the latter two was they had passed the 50 mark in years not appearances.

Recently signed centre half Stuart Cochrane received terrible news from his specialist that he will be out of the game for at least 18 months due to a torn interior cruciate ligament injury. This is a massive blow to both Stuart and the club.

Finally the club extend the deepest condolences to Kieran Fee, our groundsman on the sudden and very sad passing of his mother. Our thoughts are with him and his family at this time.
    black.gif (807 bytes)
    Fivemiletown Notes - 14th February 2009
The First team travelled to play Laurelvale in their first league game for 5 weeks and even with a near full strength panel to pick from could not overcome the previous weeks inactivity and although holding the upper hand for long periods of the game slipped to a single goal defeat.

The inability to convert chances remains a cause of concern to the management and must be overcome if the team are to haul themselves up the table.

    MOTM Ivor Johnston.

The Seconds hosted title challenging Maguiresbridge at the King George Playing Fields and for the Second game in a row took points from one of the top teams after drawing 1-1.

The difference this week than the previous encounter against Ederney was the Bridge manager Jimmy Mc Clearys sportsmanship at the final whistle. Although disappointed he still approached our management to shake hands and wish us well. A sentiment which the club acknowledges and appreciates.

The three signings in the transfer window have added that bit of experience that was missing from the young team in the first half of the campaign.

MOTM Gareth Mc Guckin with good returns from Ben Irwin, Adam Black and Keith Clarke. Sean Mc Caffrey netted our goal.

The Thirds travelled to Lisnaskea to play Maguiresbridge Reserves and kept their promotion hopes on track with a comfortable 5-2 victory. Davy Kelly with 4 and Kieran Murphy were on target.

MOTM Kelly with Niall Murphy, Matty Callaghan and Kieran Murphy playing well.

The U14 team won 3-2 v Dromore. Ivan Carson 2 and Gary Trotter scoring the goals with Conor Mc Caffrey MOTM.

Next week the Firsts travel to Lurgan Town for another league encounter while games for the Seconds and Thirds were not known at the time of writing.

The January POTM award for the Seconds went to Addy Williamson.

    Fivemiletown Notes - 10th January 2009
On Saturday the First team made a long awaited return to action after the xmas break and the recent frosty weather, it has 4 weeks since the team played and it showed in this rusty performance. An unbelievable 4 own goals were scored in this game which was the main talking point from both sets of supporters after the game.
With the aid of a very strong wind Seapatatrick took the lead after 14 minutes, when the defence failed to close down on the edge of the box allowing the attacker to unleash a vicious shot into the net.

Two minutes it was 2 down. A needless free kick conceded on the edge of the box was chipped into a melee of players which Dessie Gilmour, while trying nod clear steered the ball beyond the grasp of Dean Merret in the Town goal.

On the half hour Gilmour redeemed himself, latching onto a Chris Mc Dowell free kick to halve the deficit.
The Second half had just kicked off when unexplicibly Seapatrick again found space in the Town backline to restore their two goal lead.

On 53 and the Town again fought back a looping cross into the box put the home defence under pressure forcing the defender to mirror Gilmours earlier Og and put the ball beyond the reach of the home keeper for 3-2.
On 57 another poor defensive move seen Seapatrick net number 4.

At this point manager Parkinson rang the changes Adam Williamson and Ben Irwin entered the fray and brought a much needed urgency to the game and within ten minutes two enforced Og’s had the scores level. A Mc Dowell corner seen the home keeper somehow force the ball into his home net for 4-3 and two minutes later a move between Copeland and Irwin once more resulted in a home defence crumbling while under pressure and steering the ball into their own net.

Final Score Seapatrick 4-4 Fivemiletown United

    MOTM Andy Copeland

Overall this was a poor defensive outing but the team never stopped battling and creating chances, Copeland and Stevie Erskine on his return were lively, covering a lot of ground throughout the 90 minutes. Next week the First team are at home to struggling Lurgan Town, the Seconds are away to high flying Ballygawley while the Thirds have no fixture at the time of writing.
